About Us

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about Philadelphia Women’s Center (PWC). We are tremendously grateful each day for the opportunity to help women and their families, make a difference in people’s lives, and maintain an organization dedicated to our own values and beliefs. Established in 1972, PWC was the first outpatient abortion provider in Pennsylvania, and is proud to continue to lead the way in setting a standard for women’s healthcare by identifying and meeting the needs of our patients. As our patient’s needs change, so have our services, as we strive to be at the forefront of excellence and service in the provision of women’s healthcare.

Philadelphia Women’s Center has grown over the years, and has remained committed to a number of values that we believe are crucial to sustaining an environment that respects women and their families, our committed staff and physicians, and the community in which we live and work. First and foremost we are dedicated to treating our patients with the highest level of care. We have always asked ourselves, how would I myself want to be treated? How would I want a friend or family member – someone I love – to be treated? The answers to these questions have ultimately steered PWC in our goal-setting and decision-making, and have led us to create a place that we trust and love, and that we know our patients can have faith in and depend upon. We believe in providing nonjudgmental, compassionate care based on principals of excellence, kindness, integrity, and service.

To ensure that the center adheres to the highest standards in women’s healthcare, our facility is equipped with the best in modern medical equipment, and is staffed by a team of medical professionals who specialize in providing abortion services. Our physicians are dedicated to helping all patients, including those who have special needs or require second trimester abortion care. Philadelphia Women’s Center has earned a reputation for exceptional service, where safety is paramount, and this is illustrated by the number of healthcare providers that refer patients to PWC each day. Our dedicated staff will help each patient determine the safest possible course of treatment, and will discuss all options available. For many women, accessing abortion care can be difficult. We understand this, and we will use every resource available to help.

PWC also belongs to a number of national organizations including the National Abortion Federation and the National Coalition of Abortion Providers. These organizations help to set the standard for abortion care in the United States and beyond, and understand that high quality medical care means taking emotional and spiritual needs into account, in additional to physical safety and treatment.

Now, over 30 years after beginning our mission of serving women, Philadelphia Women’s Center has opened a brand-new facility, located in a private office building. Our new facility is not only state-of-the-art, but it is also filled with art, light, plants, fountains, and music. It is a place we love to work in, and are inspired by. We are dedicated to meeting each individual woman and her family’s diverse needs. We seek to offer services that meet the patient where she “is,” whether it be through special language services, counseling services, unusual insurance needs, requests based on cultural or religious values – we want to know what it is you need, so we can help you access it if we can.

Philadelphia Women's Center also understands the unexpected financial burden that abortion services place on so many woman.  We are committed to offering a variety of financial assistance options to women in need, and will work directly with our patients to overcome these obstacles.

PWC is made up of a diverse and experienced group of people, who are committed to furthering the cause of reproductive rights both in and out of the office. Our staff members raise money for important causes, speak at schools, outreach events, and other functions, and further their own educations in order to give more back to the community. PWC is also proud to work with the organization Medical Students For Choice, which offers opportunities for future physicians to learn more about abortion services and reproductive health. We believe it is crucial to help provide quality educations to the next generation of nurses, doctors, midwives, and other healthcare providers, and PWC supports these efforts at every opportunity.

Philadelphia Women’s Center is like a family, and we truly believe that our team of staff members and medical professionals provide excellent care because they themselves are treated in a manner that shows respect and caring. The people who make up Philadelphia Women’s Center enjoy their work, and are challenged and inspired each day. We are always learning from our patients, and having the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives encourages us to remember that the care we provide is necessary to sustain a world that values women, and all of us.
